FJ-2 Fury Fighter Jets in Flight, U.S. Navy. The Navy's latest carrier-based jet fighter, North American's swept-wing FJ-2 Fury flies formation with its predecessor, the FJ-1. The newest Fury, of which a prototype was first flown February 19, is in the 650 miles an hour class, carriers four 20 mm cannons, and has a service ceiling in excess of 45,000 feet. It is powered by a General Electric J-47 turbo-jet engine. The FJ-2 is scheduled for early production at North American's Columbus, Ohio, Division.
