Charles Eason and Charles Rogers of the 31st Regiment, Korea. SFC Charles H. Eason, Birmingham, Alabama, and Sergeant Charles W. Rogers, Greenville, South Carolina, shown with colors of 31st "Polar Bear" Regt. which will go to U.S. for 1st time to participate in General Eisenhower's inauguration parade. These GIs carry colors of only Army unit which has not only fought Russians on Russian soil but which has never served within continental limits of U.S. The 31st has been engaged throughout its history on keeping flag flying in Asia and, in 1918, when just 2 years old, was called on to keep bands of White Russians from severing Trans-Siberian Railway during Russia's Bolshevik Revolution and Civil War. The Regt. derived nickname "Polar Bears" from Siberian Expeditionary Force and also has another -- "America's Foreign Legion." Korea.
