1961 Press Photo Marine looks atop "Suicide Hill" at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

A young marine looks out over the hilly terrain from his guard post atop "suicide hill" on the sprawling U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. His post is a four-feet stack of sandbags covered by a light wooden reef to ward off the rain and hot sun. From here he watches for movement in the cactus-covered hills on the other side of the fence dividing the base from the rest of Cuba.
