Description
Spider - About a million years ago, an unprepossessing primate discovered that his forelimbs could be used for other purposes besides locomotion. Sticks and stones could be grasped, and, once grasped, were useful for killing game, digging up roots, defending or attacking, and a hundred other jobs. On the third planet of the sun tools had appeared; and the place would never be the same again. Sitting for its portrait during recent ecology studies, this wolf spider, which averages about three-quarters of an inch in length, regards the photographer with eight eyes. Can you spot them in the upper picture? If not, look at the enlarged and retouched portion of the picture below.

Photo is dated 1968.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
