1962 Press Photo Vere Stock, first South African Consul-General in New Orleans

Description
Vere G. Stock, the first South African Consul-General in New Orleans, was born in Graaff-Reinet, Cape Province, in 1920. He was educated at St. John's College, Johannesburg, and at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1941. Soon thereafter Mr. Stock joined the South African Air force and served with South African units in Madagascar, East Africa, North Africa Italy and Yugoslavia during World War II. He joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1946, and has held staff posts with the South African Legation in Stockholm, Sweden, the South African Embassy in Paris, and the head office of the Department of Foreign Affairs at Pretoria, South Africa. Mr. Stock is married to the former Miss Frances Beatrice Coetzee.
