Description
Erosion and winds battered the old Southwest Pass Light Station (left) into submission and replacement by new station which cost nearly $1 million. The old station has been abandoned for several months. The old light at Southwest pass, built in 1929 as foghorn station with a light added in 1947, was replaced by new structure. Ever since Hurricane Hilda, this station has not been manned. It has been operated by remote control.

Photo is dated 1965.
