"Australia and America are so incredibly alike," declares gracious American-born Lady Anna Sholl, whose forebearers were firmly American, back to 1635, until her family moved to Australia when she was 14. She didn't return to her native land until two years ago, when her husband, Sir Reginald Sholl, shifted from courtroom and classroom to foreign service and became Consul General to 36 states. "I felt right at home in America immediately and so would you if you went to Australia." Interested in gracious living, Lady Sholl took a Cordon Bleu course privately. "For no particular reason, really," she shrugged over coffee at the Royal Orleans, "I elected to learn 35 different dishes and seven enormously rich pastries which I never touched, of course. I just took them off in a taxi."

Photo is dated 1967.
