Mayor Victor H. Schiro and Sr. Rafael M. Vazquez, at right, new consul general of Argentine at New Orleans, today discussed the possibility of obtaining a statue of Jose de San Martin, the Argentine liberator, for the Basin street neutral ground near Canal street. Mayor Schiro said that New Orleans is prepared to provide a "noble setting" for a status of San Martin, should the people of Argentina elect to present such a statue to the city. An existing statue of Simon Bolivar, another South American liberator, is the first of a hope-for series of statues of Latin American heroes along Basin street.
