Mississippi's first lady, Mrs. John Bell Williams, formally opened the 1969 homecoming weekend activities at the University of Southern Mississippi with the dedication of the Dr. Bertha M. Fritzche Home Economics Building. From left are Dr. Fritzsche; Mrs. Williams; Dr. Sarah L. Weaver, dean of the USM school of home economics, and Dr. William D. McCain, president of the university. Dr. Fritzsche, dean emeritus of home economics at USM, served at Southern from 1929 to 1968.
