Description
Methods to get students to school on time while keeping traffic moving quickly were outlined to about 50 women who will be crossing guards for private, parochial and public schools this year. Officials of the New Orleans public schools and the New Orleans Police Department told the women not to stop traffic if it is heavy and to wait until a group of children are gathered on a corner before permitting them to cross. Sgt. Jarred H. Rankin, school traffic safety coordinator of the New Orleans Police Department Traffic Division, rehearses signals with prospective women school crossing guards.

Photo is dated 1965.
