1964 Press Photo Fire damaged oil wells on Production Island at Dupre Cut

Fire swept through three oil field storage tanks about seven miles south of Lafitte today, sending 12 workers scrambling for safety across a precarious wooden suspension bridge. There were no reports of injuries. The fire broke out about 8:30 a.m. on Production Island, which serves about 150 oil-producing wells in the 15-square-mile Lafitte field.
