Description
Tourists on Russian Cruiseship on Volga River. On the fantail of cruise boats, tourists are given lecture on Soviet foreign policy. Russians get few chances for ocean cruises, but there's one cruise they can take, and they do so by the thousands during the summer. Sparkling white riverboats carrying passengers up and down the Volga River for most of its 2,300-mile course. Soviet citizens usually board the cruise boat right in Moscow and proceed to the Volga through the Moscow Canal. Then they float leisurely past the university city of Gorki and the bulbous towers of Yaroslavi all the way to the delta lands at Astrakhan on the Caspian Sea. On the fan deck tourists are given lectures on Soviet economy, foreign policy and beginner's Russian for non-residents. Soviet student guides are ready to give lectures at the drop of a hint, and this passes as entertainment instead of dances and bridge tourneys.

Photo is dated 1967.
