Description
But talk with Jules Romains, a member of the French academy and one of the most noted literary figures of this century, and he speaks not of literature or of writers. For Jules Romains - French poet, novelist playwright, and philosopher - is more interested in talking about peace. Romains, 75, was interviewed Tuesday in a cool, book-lined room in the home of Capt. and Mrs. Robert Estachy, 9 Blanc. pl. He came to New Orleans after visiting New York. When asked his views on writing and writers Romains' answers were courteous, but brief. But when he spoke of peace or Khrushchev or Algeria, then his bright blue eyes sparkled beneath the white eaves of his eyebrows. His voice became deliberate and passionate, a gentle mingling of French and English.
