Mike Stark, Mask Maker for Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Mask-maker Mike Stark, prominent in the local counter-culture of the '60s, says he now "deals in fantasy." Stark was director of the city's first and only free clinic called the HEAD Clinic (Health Emergency Aid Dispensary) and located on Decatur Street. He helped organize other French Quarter services, such as New Orleans Switchboard Exchange (referred to as NOSE), a community information resource line, and Help Around the Neighborhood Director (HAND), a job cooperative, as well as a commune on Royal Street. All are now defunct.

Photo is dated 1982.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
