Laotian Princes from left to right are Boun Oum, Souvanna Phouma and Souphanouvong. U.N. delegates are doing everything possible to avoid talking about the war in South Vietnam and the precarious cease-fire in Laos. Nowhere among the 97 items in the General Assembly agenda is there any direct reference to the crises in either of the two Southeast Asian nations. President Kennedy mentioned these dangers in his speech at the Assembly. But following speakers expressing the opinions of their countries generally have omitted these Southeast Asian problems, while voicing strong opinions on the conflicts in Algeria, Angola, Berlin. Even Asian delegates seem to prefer talking about problems much farther away from home.
