1967 Press Photo Petroleum Reserve Officers Look Over Oil Field Map, California

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Officers in charge of vast petroleum reserve look over oil field maps rather than navigation charts as they check progress of maintenance crews on more than 1,000 pumps at the wealthiest Navy base in the world, located in parched, rolling hills between Bakersfield and Taft, California. The $3 billion oil field is so rich, it still overflows with $8 million of oil per year despite efforts to curb the flow. Its 46,095 acres are favored by nature with more than one billion barrels of recoverable oil.

Photo is dated 1967.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
