1955 Press Photo Portable Island offshore oil platform in Mississippi

This portable islandE, nine-stories high is pictured in the Mississippi River near Vicksburg. It will soon see action in the Gulf. R. G. LeTourneau Incorporated, Longview, Texas, has sold the mammoth platform for $2,000,000. The platform can be lowered to the water, floated from one operation to the other, then hoisted above the waves again.
