Description
An Ocean Floor Well Head Assembly, one of two installed in Block 175 Eugene Island Area, is pictured here on the rig floor prior to its being placed in service in 70 feet of water. Sinclair Oil & Gas Co. is operator of the block, while El Paso Natural Gas has 25 percent interest and Sohio Petroleum a third interest in the lease. Hurricane Hilda in 1964 knocked over two production platforms for the operators, and they immediately started experimenting with submarine well-heads as their answer to the problem.
