1966 Press Photo Tunnel Sections Built For Installation Under Scheldt River

Work on massive concrete sections of an auto tunnel to go beneath the Scheldt River is proceeding on dry land in the Netherlands. Once completed, the units will be towed to the tunnel site on the river and sunk. When all sections have been linked, the river water will be pumped out. The Scheldt tunnel will be a key link in a superhighway from Rotterdam to Lille, France.
