Salt Marsh Mosquito - On Thursday afternoon, August 19, 1965 the phone rang in the office of the Orleans Parish Mosquito Control, The secretary answered. "This is Gauge No. 49, reporting 2.3," a woman said. She was one of the 60 volunteers scattered over the parish who keep rain gauges for Mosquito Control. By mail, once each week, they report the daily rainfall, but if any rain is more than 0.5 of an inch, they phone in their report at once.
