1973 Press Photo Cows move through the Atchafalaya Basin area, Morganza Spillway

Cows move slowly through the Atchafalaya Basin area to escape the Mississippi River deluge which poured through the Morganza Spillway following its opening early yesterday. The gates were closed again, temporarily, to allow wild life and cattle a chance to seek higher ground.
