"I miss the Morse (Code) days. I remember learning the code when I was 12 over in Covington. Times sure have changed," said Alvin J. Johnson Wednesday in recalling the changes he has seen in 50 years of service to the Western Union Telegraph Company. Johnson, who will retire August 31, was presented a gold watch honoring him for his service to the company, which includes stints as a file clerk, Morse operator, service clerk and finally as a telephone operator, his present capacity.
