The Florida Street Incinerator is one of two municipal incinerators which will be closed down when a new facility just approved goes into operation. The new facility, which will handle 650 tons of garbage a day, will extract metals, glass and paper from ordinary and recycle them to companies willing to buy the resources. The other incinerator to be shut down in the 7th Street incinerator. Both have been found in violation of Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.
