Fort Pike takes its name from American General Zebulon M. Pike, who discovered Pike's Peak in Colorado in 1806, during his exploration of territory in the Louisiana Purchase. Today, under the direction of the State Parks and Recreation Commission, it's a haven for picnickers. Adventurers, young and old, can marvel at its size and construction and conjure up full storehouses, garrisoned bastions and remounted guns.

Photo is dated 1969.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
