Republican challenger David Emery makes an emphatic point at a news conference Wednesday after claiming a big upset victory in the race for Maine's First District Congressional seat. Incumbent Democrat, Representative Peter N. Kyros, did not concede and made preliminary moves for a recount. Unofficial reruns showed the 26-year-old Emery leading the four-term Congressman by some 900 votes.
