1965 Press Photo Deer Released As Part of Deer Relocation Project, Louisiana

Scientific know-how and the dedication of wildlife personnel are providing a boon to Louisiana hunters. Deep in the heart of Cameron Parish in Southwest Louisiana, where the marshlands extend into infinity, a vast deer relocation project is under way. The Louisiana Wild Life and Fisheries Department is sowing the fields at Gum Cove with a tranquilizer by placing the chemical on corn and waiting for nature to take its course. Wild deer in abundance much on the tasty morsels, and within minutes a wondrous transformation occurs. The deer lose their natural fear of man, enabling the state wildlife men to approach the docile animals with impunity, bind their feet with cotton straps, and load them on trucks for shipment to areas where deer are few. It's a new home for this deer, after capture in Cameron Parish and trip to area where deer are in short supply.
