Associate Justice Hugo L. Black, who became senior member of the supreme court after the death last night of Chief Justice Harlan F. Stone, poses in the library of his office today, just after formally announcing the death to a packed courtroom. Black will preside at court sessions until a successor to Stone takes his seat.
