1956 Press Photo Professor James J. Ryan Works on Ways to Reduce Impact Effects

Badly buckled, and with its front end smashed flat, an old car shows the effects of being dropped to the pavement from a height of 53-feet--the equivalent of smashing into a solid well at a speed of 40mph--in a demonstration aimed at Labor Day weekend drivers. A University of Minnesota Professor, James J. Ryan, working on ways to reduce impact effects of car collisions gave the public demonstration while gathering data for his work.
