1957 Press Photo Jewish Couple Charged With Kidnapping adopted Daughter

A Jewish couple charged with kidnapping the adopted daughter they raised from infancy sought help from the Governor of Florida March 17 to keep Massachusetts courts from giving the child to a Catholic orphanage. An Attorney said Melvin B. Ellis, and his wife, weary from nearly 2 years of hiding to avoid losing their child, will ask Governor Leroy Collins to give them refuge from a Massachusetts extradition warrant which would return them North to face prosecution and the loss of 6-year-old Hildy McCoy Ellis. The little girl's photo and one of her dollars are visible in this picture.
