1923 Press Photo George W Hess with Carica Papaya Tree of Hawaii

George W. Hess, Superintendent of the Botanical Gardens, is shown with a Carica Papaya tree, a native of the Hawaiian Islands, which is being grown successfully in the gardens. From the fruit is obtained the papain of Commerce and it is also used as a vegetable.
