A new circular dividing machine just set up in the United States Bureau of Standards in Washington is the most accurate mechanism of its kind in the world, making master circles for manufacturers of navigating and surveying instruments, including those for the Coast and Geodetic Survey, accurate to an almost imperceptible perfection. C.D. Shepard of the Bureau of Standards staff is shown with the instrument.
