Kathryn Elmquist, 16, is recognized by the Salvation Army as a "General's Guard". To achieve this highest and final grade in The Life Saving Guards, a Salvation Army young peoples' organization, Kathryn, whose home is in Chicago, had first to show proficiency in sewing, housekeeping, first aid work, and skill in nine other branches of practical accomplishment, including study, bathing a baby less than one year old, and music. Photo shows Lt. Commissioner John McMillan of the Central Territory congratulating Kathryn after the honor was conferred upon her.

Photo is dated 1928.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
