From Laborer to New York State Supreme Justice is the story of John L. Walsh of New York (above) Born in 1880, he became a laborer in the Department of Gas, Water supply and electricity in New York. He attended law courses at New York University at night, was graduated in 1905, admitted to the bar the same year, entered the law firm of which supreme court Justice John N. Macevoy was head, succeeded to his practice in 1907, when Justice MacEvoy went on the bench, becoming commissioner of weights and measures, resigning in 1915 and winning appointment as justice of city court in 1916 by Gov. Whiteman's appointment to fill unexpired term. In 1917 he was elected for same place on Democratic Ticket. On Tuesday night, December 2, Gov. Smith announced his appointment to the New York Supreme Bench to succeed the late Thomas F. Donnelly in the first Judicial District. Photo measures 8.5 x 6.5 inches. Photo is dated 12-04-1924.
