Description
AS THE POTATO SHORTAGE THREATENS TO TURN INTO A FAMINE MANY LEGITIMATE POTATO PROCESSING CONCERNS ARE BEING HARD-PRESSED TO SUPPLY THEIR CUSTOMERS. ONE COMPANY IN NEW YORK CITY WHICH SUPPLIES PEELED POTATOES TO HOSPITALS AND RESTAURANTS IS PREPARING TO SHUT DOWN AS ITS PRESENT SUPPLY OF POTATOES IS USED UP. THE LOWLY TAKEN FOR GRANTED SPUD HAS BECOME A GLAMOROUS ITEM, A PANG OF REMORSE FILLING PEOPLE UPON SUDDENLY REALIZING THAT AN OLD FRIEND IS HARDLY WITH US ANY LONGER. MEANWHILE, OPS PRICE CONTROL AND GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY LIFTING HAVE COME UNDER SHARP CRITICISM FROM THE POTATO INDUSTRY, ESPECIALLY IN THE LIGHT OF THE ALLEGED CREATION OF A "POTATO BLACK MARKET." THE LAST SHIPMENT OF SPUDS ARRIVES AT THE POTATO SERVICE OF NEW YORK COMPANY WHICH PLANS TO SHUT DOWN WHEN THESE POTATOES ARE PEELED AND DELIVERED TO ITS HOSPITAL AND RESTAURANT CUSTOMERS.

Photo is dated 1952.

Photo measures 6 x 9 inches.
