New York City--Mrs. Don W. Steele, head of the Red Cross's new Foreign Inquiry Service, which gets information for persons in the United States about relatives or friends abroad whose whereabouts have become obscured in the confusion of war. The new service has 1000 volunteer workers and has served 47 countries. Poland leads in the number of inquiries for war victims. Inquiries of 13,056 local residents, regarding the whereabouts of more than 31,791 persons in the various countries, have been handled.
