Sale of his 500 acre Crum Elbow estate by Howland Spencer anti New Dealer to followers of Father Divine negro cult leader, paved the way for establishment of a negro settlement of probably 3000 persons across the Hudson river from President Roosevelt's Hyde Park home. Spencer denied malice saying he wished to test Roosevelt's theories against those of Divine Roosevelt is ruining the country with debts. Dicine won't permit debts he said. Building probably to be used for office and to house female members of the Divine group Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches. Photo is dated 07-29-1938.
