1945 Press Photo New York William Rosenthal at damaged 79th floor of Empire NYC

Rosenthal, reconstruction company worker at the Empire State Bldg, stands amid the shambles of the National Catholic Welfare offices on the 79th floor, and points t the woodcarving of Pope Pius on the wall. The carving was sent from Rome by Sgt C.M. Dombrouski on Feb 8, 1945. As estimated 10 persons, girl clerical workers, were killed in these offices or in the hall as they sought to escape the flames. Photo measures 7 x 9 inches. Photo is dated 07-29-1945.
