Fort Lauderdale, Fla Capt Brainard S Cook. pointing commanding officer, points to water connection while conferring with his staff, as recon troops of a US Army 8th Division mechanized cavalry unit pitched camp near Ft Lauderdale, after a 645 mile non stop forced march from Fort Jackson, Columbia SC. A cold driving rain added difficulties of the 27 hour trip, conducted to prove soldiers can take it and still keep going. Medical officers accompanied the unit to study effects of strai.
