1938 Press Photo Irene Scott married Matthew Rodgers after 1st fiance hung

Watford, Hertfordshire, England 3 months after her finace John Thomas Rodgers was hung for the murder of a barmaid, 17 year old Irene Scott of Chorley, Hertfordshire England was married to Rodgers elder brother Matthew, who is a lance corporal in the Worcester Regiment. Matthew had obtained a special leave and hurried home from India when he heard that his brother was accused, but arrived too late. Irene announced her engagement to the executed man a day after he was found guilty. Photo shows the black clad bride with her groom.
