1939 Press Photo Celebration of Colonial Chieftain Visit to Paris - nem63347

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
France's success in colonial administration is laid to the attitude that a French colony is merely an extension of the soil of France proper. And when a colonial chieftain comes to Paris, as many did for the celebrations he is treated as a Parisian. Even through the celebrations are over, many of the dignitaries from French African possessions find it difficult to leave Paris and start for home. Here is view of some of the quests at the home of M. Provost, Leader in Paris. Around the table (left to right) are: a guest ready to fill empty champagne glasses; Chieftains, Sambra Tohaore, of the Sudan; The Son of M. Provost, seated on the lap of Nile Xuan Madeselaire, of Cameroun; a guest and Provost.

Photo is dated 1939.

Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches.
