1945 Press Photo Captain C. H. Coles at the control of the new microflash units

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Fleeter than the swiftest bullet are the flashes produced by theses six micro flash units, attached to an electronic sequence timer that controls their sequential firing. Only 2/1,000,000ths of a second in duration these flashes make the ordinary photo flash seem like an all night landing beacon. Captain C. H. Coles, an Air Technical Service Command photo engineer, shown here at the controls, devised the timer as a meas of taking a peek at a bullet piercing an armor plate.

Photo is dated 1945.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8 inches.
