Nine U.S. Army men, crew and passengers of a helicopter forced down in East Germany, walk the last few steps to freedom across the border in West Germany. After diplomatic discussion reached in impasse, conversations between Robert S. Wilson (the man in the civilian clothes), American Red Cross director of operations in Europe, and East German Red Cross officials, resulted in liberation of the men. The American Red Cross has staff and volunteers in all overseas military theatres to serve the U.S. Armed Forces.
