New Jersey's Atlantic City, peace time Mecca of vacationers, weekenders and beauty contests has taken on a new, bigger job, that of reconditioning and rehabilitating at the England General Hospital wounded officers and enlisted men who have returned from overseas duty. The recuperating men have full recreational program and one of the favorite sports is softball played on the beach between wounded officers and wounded enlisted men. Photo shows: Private Emil Schuppe, of Pond Dulac, Wisc. smacks the ball as Lt. Ernest Viegelmann of Baldwin NY plays catchers position for the wounded officers team. Most of the teams were made up of men who have served overseas.

Photo is dated 1943.

Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches.
