1943 Press Photo Seaport of Sfax Graveyard of Axis Ships Blasted by Bombers

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Two American soldiers (R), of the allied forces that swept northwards in Tunisia in pursuit of Marshal Rommel's Africa Corps, stand guard on a pier overlooking the seaport of Sfax, now the graveyard of many Axis ships blasted by allied bombers. This was one of the few remaining ports of importance in Tunisia. Today, American, British and French columns are slowly, but surely closing in on Axis forces trapped on the Northern tip of Tunisia.

Photo is dated 1943.

Photo measures 8.75 x 7.25 inches.
