1934 Press Photo Nila Cram Cook and son aboard the "City of Elwood" Freighter

Nila Cram Cook, daughter of the late George Cram Cook, poet, playwright and Greek Scholar, who deserted the life of an ascetic in Mahatma Gandhi's seminary in Kashmir to search for new thrills, "life, love and music," arrived in New York, March 24th, aboard the freighter, City of Elwood. She had been forcibly placed aboard the vessel at Calcutta, February 9th. She is shown as she arrived with her son, Serios Cram.
