Lagos, Nigeria: Maj. Gen. Aguiyi-Ironsi (shown in recent file photo) Nigerian Army Chief, is thought to have remained loyal to the government during attempted coup of 1/15. Nigeria Radio broadcast a statement 1/16 by Aguiyi-Ironsi during which he claimed most of regular army was loyal and troops were searching for Federal Prime Minister Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and his Finance Minister, who were kidnapped by rebels.
