1938 Press Photo Black Sea Fleet declared to be the Nucleus for Soviet's Navy

These cruisers of the Black Sea Fleet are part of the "backbone" around which Russian officials declare the red fleet will be built to outstrip sea forces of all other nations. February 23 marks the twentieth anniversary of the organization of the Red Army and Military Fleet of the U.S.S.R. the bigger fleet program was believed intended particularly as protection against possible attack from Japan, Italy and Germany.
