1949 Press Photo Ohio-Little Margaret Renz rescued from sewer shown with mother

Cleveland Ohio-Margaret Renz, 12, who was rescued from a storm sewer here 1/22 after she was swept underground for half a mile, snuggles close to her mother, Mrs. Margaret Renz as they leave hospital where the child was treated for shock and the large amounts of water she swallowed. Margaret fell into the sewer while playing with her friends when one of them lifted the manhole cover and she climbed down into the sewer. Fire Captain William Dipple, who rescued Margaret, said most of her clothing had been torn off by the raging waters.
