1943 Press Photo John Laxton looks up to Coast guardsman Joseph O'Connell

John Laxton, 31, St. Louis, Mo., 6 feet 11 3/4 inches tall, gets turned down again, this time by Coast guardsman Joseph O'Connell who measures off the 9 1/2 inches that make Laxton too tall. Nine other branches of the service, army, navv, marines, air corps, merchant marines, M.P.'s Seabees, Army Specialists and prisoner escort have given Laxton the "Go by" but he's still trying.
