Frank Gannett, Rochester, New York, newspaper publisher and avowed opponent of New Deal policies, tossed his hat definitely into the presidential ring when he announced his candidacy at a dinner in Rochester, New York. Gannett, shown above with Thomas E. Broderick, left, county Republican state executive committeeman battled Thomas E. Dewey for the state's 92 votes at national convention the same year.
